Do You Need An Aquarium Air Pump?

Air pumps are simple and inexpensive devices, like the oxygen aquarium filter pump, that serve the function of providing oxygen to the aquarium water. What they do is drop bubbles in the bottom of the tank, either through a diffuser stone, installing them below the substrate or using fabulous decorative elements such as volcanoes, geysers, chests, etc. These bubbles diffuse oxygen in the water, the smaller and many are, is more effective. In addition to reaching the surface cause a slight agitation favors gas exchange between water and air.

The fish in wholesale aquariums obviously need oxygen to breathe and consume plants overnight, but there are other processes under water they consume dissolved oxygen. The bacteria use oxygen to transform the remains nitrogen into less toxic substances, so any decaying element, whether food, feces, dead leaves or detached, causing increased consumption of oxygen in the aquarium. It is true that plants also produce oxygen through photosynthesis, but this occurs only during daylight hours they have proper light. It is not easy to achieve a population sufficient to supply all living beings aquarium plants, considering also our tanks are often overcrowded and they are given too much food fish.

We must also consider that there are characteristics of water that change their ability to retain oxygen. As water temperature increases, the dissolved oxygen decreases. On the other hand, salt water also has less dissolved oxygen.

Unless you have a way to measure the dissolved oxygen in the water of your aquarium with cheap fish tank decorations and see that it is not necessary, we recommend installing an aerator according to the size of the tank. If it is too long it may be better to put two small opposing instead of one large one. A deep tank requires a pump harder to overcome the water pressure generated by air. You will also need a powerful aerator for ornaments that move with the passage of the bubbles. In short, an aerator is an economic element; it does not consume too much electricity or occupy much space and can be an important for the welfare and health of your fish factor.
